nick:  ecotricity
Following an article in the paper, I was reminded to do something about green electricity, and have signed up for ecotricity - has a good score according to ethiscore and from what I can see of customer reviews they seem reasonable. Also, price is matched to whatever your default electric supplier is, so you're not paying extra (although I wouldn't mind). I'll let you know how it goes...

Comments:
Blogger Steve: Nick, I seem to buy the same stuff that you've add - video, amplifier. Now it's your turn. Why not treat youself to a twin of my bike on eBay - HERE. Tracey lives near Bath as well to do the pickup!

Blogger nick: well it ends on Sunday, so I can have a look at yours first to see whether it's worth bidding for...

Looks like I'd need Tim's help to put some pedals on.

Blogger Tim: Too small, isn't it?

Blogger Steve: You could argue it's a bit small but I thought the guy said he was 5'9" and it's fine for him. I'm not being that serious but then he can get it to Aldershot which is even more convenient! I think we have spare normal pedals if you need some more.

Blogger Tim: Speaking of which, I went to see Saints v QPR last weekend (terrible game) and before I went I mentioned to Nick that Saints v Luton was approaching: Sat 25th November. Nick said he might go!! Steve, I expect you and the boys are also keen to add St Mary's to the list of stadia you've attended?

Blogger nick: I meant that we could all (including boys) go! I thought they might like the chance to see Luton winning away from home

Blogger Tim: NOBODY* beats the Saints at St Mary's.

(* This season, except QPR. So far.)

Blogger Steve: Good thought, I did enjoy the one Luton game I saw the other year. Paul works Saturdays but Matt might be keen although he tends to like slobbing out at weekends and doesn't like it if it's all organised for him. I know what he means, when you go back on the Monday morning it can feel like you haven't had a weekend.

I'll check the calendar.

Almost finished The Closers by Michael Connelly. Very good crime stuff, more police procedural than hectic chasing around, truns out it's one of a series about an LAPD detective. There is a surprise in the current book but nothing silly. This is the second I've read of his. Have The Golden Notebook and Martha Quest waiting at home.

Blogger Steve: Spent yesterday evening (as it's too dark to ride) watching the KC DVD Neal And Jack And Me - 80's live disk of two earlier VHS's. So far I watched the longer 84 gig and apart from the odd bit of 80s digitised effects it is awesome. To see (and hear) what Belew does with his guitar - he is the main focus - is great. Levin is often one-handed bass and the other on keyboard. At times both Bruford and Belew are drumming which explains what I was hearing on the CD of this tour. Then we had a bit of Rush live in Rio. Lovely stuff.

Blogger nick: some nice pictures (and ideas for pictures) are on this wikipedia page

Blogger Steve: Nick, how are the legs. I've now got Paul's cols but otherwise am fine :) Great weekend BTW. Bike went for 438 in the end. Will book mine in for the check today and bring it on the train this week (early start though as I have to arrive before 7am!).

Blogger Steve: Nick, the odd snag you get with the chain on my bike in certain gears is because the gears are not 100% aligned. Looking from the back and below you can see that the chain is not exactly in the middle so every now and again a link catches on the next cog down. I've tried an adjustment but not a road-test yet.

Cheers for the Freeview box. There is really nothing on! Although we did watch a bit of Forrest Gump on Film4 the other night.

Reading about the KS remasters on the EM Forum it's amazing how many of them have problems with people getting free replacements. I was going to get a new version of X as the final track's treble on CD is way off but this has put me off.

Blogger nick: Good to know the gear problem is not terminal.

I told John how impressed I was with the Felt and asked about his, he said

Yes my Specialized Sequoia is a joy to ride. It's also aluminum framed with carbon forks, with the addition of carbon seat-stays. The carbon supposedly helps it absorb bumps - and I have no complaints, despite now riding on narrower tyres than on my old road bicycle. My Sequoia also has a suspension seat post - can't say I'd recommend it - I adjusted it so it is very stiff, to minimise the "biong". Shame I can't transfer it to my MTB (-I looked, but the stems are different diameters).

From what I read about road bicycles, I think you should avoid entry-elevl road bikes with aluminum forks, because of alledged harsh ride. But be warned - my Sequoia came with some warning that I should replace the carbon forks etc. after 3 years! I assume this is manufacturers just covering their arse, so I have no intention of replacing forks.

Went to look at a house - well, bungalow - in the village yesterday. Bit expensive but potentially nice. It's about the cheapest decent detached place we've seen recently... not sure if we'll make an offer or not (it's a repossession, so I think they see what the best offer is)

Blogger Steve: I don't think I can take any more shocks this year if you might move. Here's the current list:

1. Tracey single-again situation
2. Andy's factory announces closure for 2010 (I think) so would they like to get other jobs?
3. Richard has a new job so they are moving to the Cotswolds.

Just check how much grass there is to cut as this is a job I really dislike.

Gave up with The Golden Notebook. May do the same with Martha Quest.

Blogger nick: yikes! didn't know about any of those three - when did you find out about tracey? Good to know Richard's got another job at least. I'll bear your worries in mind and try not to move.

To return to the initial topic, had letter from Ecotricity, which says all I have to do is send them a meter reading on 27 oct, at which time they'll become my electricity supplier. So, seems straightforward...

Blogger Steve: The reason for Tracey's visit last weekend (in a rush) was to tell everyone the situation with her husband of a year going home to live with his Mum. Tracey and her Mum came around after you'd gone. T seemed okay but angry at the money that she'd wasted on him. I'm sad thinking that she had 8 years to go on her house but she sold it to move down there, and now has only a little money left and is in rented accommodation. Her Mum and Dad have offered to move down there. I think D has emailed Lesley about this.
