Tim: Not much news
...except my switch to broadband is under way. I've emailed Pipex to cancel*, and I've ordered some wi-fi bits. Probably will sign up to plusnet, Nick, so you could be looking forward to 25p a month off.
*Stage 1: cancel the unlimited-dialup subscription.
I'm busy changing email addresses for all the online logins I can think of. When I'm happy that's mostly done and my Pipex mailboxes are just collecting spam..
*Stage 2: ditch Pipex dial.

nick: I just re-signed up to plusnet on the 512K premier thing. In April, all their accounts will be able to use whatever speed is available at the exchange: I assume that's one of the reasons their "lite" packages are the same price whatever speed you have.
My usage over the past few months has been around 4-5GB/month so I think it would have worked out a bit more expensive for me to have a "lite" package and pay extra for more GB.
Re: mail addresses, aren't there any services which'll give you a free address for life, which you can then just forward to whatever ISP you're using? Maybe you've already sussed this.

Tim: Are you saying that it'll be £15 for lite, £22 for premier, regardless of speed? I was thinking of going for lite and assuming I'd be paying for extra Gb; but that was when it was >£22 for 1Mb/2Mb so a rethink might be in order.
I've got some domains, so no shortage of email addresses, it's just managing the things that needs a bit of thinking about - keeping track of them and spam-avoidance. At the moment I'm funnelling everything through gmail, which might help keep things together (although I can't really say I grok gmail yet).

nick: There's a press release describing the new pricing guidelines hereAt the moment the premier accounts are priced differently based on speed, but in April the speed will be whatever you can get, and the price you pay will determine your "fair usage" limit, with 21.99 == 30GB fair usage. I think that's right..
nick: plusnet shows me as having earned a 25p discount, so I guess that'll be you on the 2MB Lite package tim...
