Steve:  No Linux News
Well Nick's off on holiday so you and me Tim for a while...

I tried to load Linux Fedora last night. Got the latest CDs and re-partitioned the old PC for Win98 and Linux. Reinstalled Win98 in case we need it. Went to install Linux and hit a bug - assertion error as it tried to work out the partition information. So game over with that version and combination of disk layout. Quick trawl of Google and it's been seen before but when you have CDs and you're booting them it's a bit tricky.

Annoyed of Luton.

Blogger Tim: It's quite handy being able to find out via Google what your problem is, but when it's insurmountable (same as with my PCI card/motherboard conflict) it would be really handy to know in advance. But there's no way of finding out, is there? Maybe next time I buy some component/software I might try googling for "(thingmyjig) problems", "(thingmyjig) crashes" and "(thingmyjig) fails", but I'm never going to spot the thing that might apply to me, am I?

Blogger Steve: I have a few things to try that involve making a floppy with a patch on. Paul was keen to get it loaded but every time we hit a delay or snag he was back on MSN to his mates. The constant typing was doing my head in.
